What is refractory bricks‘ joint?

The brick joints of refractory bricks are the gaps between bricks and bricks, which need to be bonded or filled with materials. Generally, high-temperature refractory mud of the same material is used. to fill the cracks.

During the masonry of refractory bricks, there will be large or small gaps between the bricks, and the high temperature flame will cause wear and erosion to the thermal equipment through the gaps. The refractory mud or dry powder of the same raw material will be used to fill the brick joints and block the erosion and erosion of the high temperature flame.

Brick joint thickness of refractory bricks
The thickness of the brick joints of the industrial furnace masonry refractory bricks should be determined by design according to the furnace body position and production conditions. According to the production practice and construction fineness, the thickness of the brick joints of an industrial furnace masonry refractory brick varies according to the furnace location. Generally, the specified values should be met. The furnaces or parts with special requirements for the thickness of the brick joints of the refractory bricks shall be determined by the design. The center line and elevation control line of the industrial furnace should be measured and determined by professionals according to the design regulations. Before the refractory bricks are laid, the lay-out size of the masonry should be checked according to the specifications and dimensions of the refractory bricks.

Refractory brick masonry method and brick joint requirements

1. The masonry method of refractory bricks is relatively simple, and there are two kinds of methods: dry masonry and wet masonry. No mud is required for dry laying, while mud is required for wet laying.

2. The type of refractory brick masonry is the requirement for the fineness of the construction, mainly referring to the size of the brick joints. Masonry categories are divided into special category, category I, category II, category III, category IV. There are requirements in the general kiln construction drawings. The brick joints of the refractory bricks of special type masonry are not more than 0.5 mm, that of type I masonry is not more than 1 mm, that of type II masonry is not more than 2 mm, and that of type III masonry is not more than 2 mm. 3mm, Class IV masonry is larger than 3mm.

If the drawings do not clearly require the type of masonry or the size of the brick joints, the temperature of each part can be determined according to the nature of the kiln. For refractory bricks, heat insulating refractory bricks and red bricks, the following regulations can be referred to (unit-mm):
