What are the alkaline refractory bricks? What is the magnesium content?

In the refractory industry, refractory bricks with MgO as the main component and periclase as the main crystal phase are collectively referred to as basic refractory bricks. Alkaline refractory bricks are mainly used in thermal kilns for cement, glass, ferroalloy and other industries.

Taking glass melting kiln as an example, alkaline refractory bricks are mainly used for regenerator checker bricks, which have high thermal conductivity, long service life and high bulk density, which increases the heat storage of regenerators. The porosity of basic refractory bricks is low; the thermal expansion coefficient increases linearly with the rise of temperature, and sufficient expansion joints should be reserved in use.

Alkaline refractory bricks are non-insulators above 900°C, have good electrical conductivity, and cannot be used as high-temperature insulating materials.

Alkaline refractory bricks cannot be used in coalgas regenerators, and hydration will occur in contact with water vapor for a long time at 40~160°C, which will make the brick structure loose and damaged, so keep it dry during storage. Before coding the checkered bricks, the regenerator should be dried.

At present, the main varieties of magnesia refractories are:

(1) Ordinary magnesia brick

Using sintered magnesia as raw material, it is made by sintering and contains about 91% of MgO. It is a magnesia refractory product directly combined with silicate, and is widely produced and used.

(2) Directly combine magnesia bricks

It is made of high-purity sintered magnesia by sintering. Containing more than 95% MgO, it is a magnesia refractory product directly bonded between periclase grains.

(3)Magnesia silica brick

Using high silicon sintered magnesia as raw material, it is made by sintering, containing SiO2, 5%~11%. It is a magnesia refractory product combined with forsterite.

(4) Magnesia chrome brick

Taking sintered magnesia as the main raw material, adding an appropriate amount of chrome ore, it is made by sintering, containing Cr2O3, 8% to 20%.

(5) Forsterite brick

Forsterite refractory is a refractory with forsterite as the main crystal phase. It is mostly made of peridotite and pure peridotite as the main raw materials, and the formed products are called forsterite bricks.

(6) Magnesia alumina brick

The sintered magnesia stone is used as the main raw material, and an appropriate amount of Al2O3 rich material is added, and it is made by sintering.

(7) Magnesia calcium brick

Using high calcium sintered magnesia as raw material, it is made by sintering, containing CaO, 6%~10%.
