Lightweight refractories for glass kilns

Lightweight refractory bricks belong to both lightweight refractory materials and thermal insulation materials. It can reduce the heat dissipation of the kiln body, save energy, and also reduce the weight of the kiln body and the cost of the kiln. Lightweight refractory materials include lightweight heat-insulating refractory bricks and aluminum silicate fibers.

Lightweight heat insulating refractory bricks can be divided into:

Clay (used for flue insulation, lower part of regenerator and pool bottom insulation, operating temperature 900~1200℃)

Aluminum (used for heat preservation on the roof of the small furnace, the outer wall of the regenerator, the outer side of the breast wall and the pool wall, the operating temperature is 1350~1500℃)

Silicon (used for heat preservation of the roof of the melting part, the roof of the working part and the roof of the regenerator, the operating temperature is 1400~1550℃)

Mullite (heat preservation on the outside of the heat storage outdoor wall, the breast wall and the outside of the pool wall, the operating temperature is 1500~1550 ℃), etc.

Aluminum silicate fibers are amorphous fibers, they include: ordinary type, use temperature 1000℃; high-purity type, use temperature 1100℃; high alumina type, use temperature 1200℃

1. Lightweight clay bricks

Lightweight refractory bricks with AL2O3 content of 30%-46% are thermal insulation bricks. Using clay clinker or light clay clinker and plastic clay as the main raw materials, it is produced by the combustible method. The ingredients are mixed with water to make plastic mud or mud, which is extruded or cast, dried and fired in an oxidizing atmosphere at 1250℃-1350℃.

2. High alumina thermal insulation brick

Also known as high-alumina thermal insulation brick. The high alumina thermal insulation brick is mainly composed of mullite and glass phase or corundum as a light refractory material. Bulk density 0.4~1.35g/cm3. The porosity is 66%~73%, and the compressive strength is 1~8MPa. Thermal shock resistance is good. The alumina content of high-alumina insulation bricks is 48%, and the higher the aluminum content, the better the product performance.

3. Lightweight silica brick

Silica thermal insulation bricks are thermal insulation refractory bricks with SiO2 content of not less than 91% made of silica as the main raw material. The bulk density of the lightweight silica insulating brick is 0.9~1.1g/cm3, the thermal conductivity is only half of that of the ordinary silica brick, and the thermal shock resistance is good. Quality insulating bricks.

4. Mullite light refractory brick

Mullite thermal insulation brick is a high alumina refractory material with mullite (3A12O3 • 2SiO2) as the main crystal phase. The alumina content is between 65% and 75%. In addition to mullite, the mineral composition contains a small amount of vitreous phase and cristobalite with a lower alumina content; a small amount of corundum is also contained in the higher alumina content.

The above are the most commonly used lightweight refractory bricks in glass kilns.
